Distant Lights of the Vistula
Another exhibition by Marcin Wrzal at Art Brut Gallery in Lublin. The title of the exhibition was inspired during a week-long painting residency in Józefów on the Vistula, where the artist, confined to the studio due to constant rain, longed for open space. Ten large-format works were created – each canvas measuring 100 × 100 cm. The pieces are quite challenging in terms of expression and use of paint. As always, the artist treats us to a wealth of symbols and hidden meanings. He employs both a palette knife and traditional brushes, achieving intriguing effects.
The paintings feature organic shapes characteristic of the artist, along with bold, warm patches that allow for greater interpretive freedom – representing a kind of new direction in the artist’s work, diverging from the forms he has accustomed us to.
