Jakub Hałas
ME. I write my life story with images

Until the end of February, Jakub Hałas will be exhibiting his works entitled "ME. I write my life story with paintings" at Galeria Art Brut.

The dichotomy of life is not always black and white, and life is not always happy. Jakub Hałas sometimes struggles with existential depression. He also suffers from other ailments, but he copes with them heroically. He does not accept the injustice of the world, where the weaker are doomed to lose the fight. He asks “why the sun is not black,” just as thoughts and dreams of unfulfilled love can be black. He poetically calls his fate “tragic.” “If you don't want the earth, you keep dreaming about paradise,” he concludes.

An experimental exhibition for viewers, to whom the artist poses the task: “Tell me about me, using at least one of my paintings.” We collect viewers' responses in the gallery:

You can read more about the exhibition (and more) in Wiktoria Kwiecień's article on the niepelnosprawnilublin.pl website – we encourage you to read it!

The opening of Jakub Hałas' exhibition entitled “ME. I write my life story with images” took place at the Art Brut Gallery on Thursday, February 13, 2025. It was a unique opportunity to talk about art and its therapeutic power.

The artist presented several of his poems to the audience, as poetry—alongside painting—constitutes a separate strand of his work, serving as a tool for expressing emotions and creative fulfillment.
