The artistic activity of people with intellectual disabilities confronts us with a sense of mystery — one that lies at the very source of human creativity we call art. How is it that individuals with no formal artistic education, unfamiliar with the history of art, are able to create works that astonish us with their beauty? Confronted with this mystery, we are left disarmed, while rational critical methods lose their authority.

The exhibition “Beyond Boundaries” presents the art of people with intellectual disabilities, created at the Warsztaty Terapii Zajęciowej (Occupational Therapy Workshops) at the Polskie Stowarzyszenie na rzecz Osób z Niepełnosprawnością Intelektualną Koło w Lublinie (Polish Association for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities — PSONI, Lublin Branch).
Art has the power to transcend boundaries: it opens, consoles, and at times moves us deeply. Before us unfolds an exceptional world of experiences of people with intellectual disabilities, preserved in images. We are invited to discover the works of remarkable artists whose creativity is not always immediately noticed or fully appreciated. Emerging beyond academic frameworks, their art is shaped by sincerity, intuition, and directness of expression. It invites the viewer into a journey through a world that is at once mysterious and deeply human.
We invite you to enter this space of artistic experience — a world that speaks through simplicity and honesty, and whose rich palette of colours encourages reflection while gently guiding the viewer toward a sense of quiet joy.
