In September 2023, the Art Brut Gallery will feature collages by 25-year-old Maja Warzecha from Bobowa-Mała, a village in Małopolska. Maja is the mother of nine-year-old Lilka and three-year-old Franio. Her retrospective, Dadaist collage works emerge from a compelling need to confront a dramatic past and the painful story of a family that falls apart daily—yet she rebuilds it every day, coming to terms with herself in the present.

Maja Warzecha first appeared in Lublin in 2014, performing in the play “Mój Babel”, produced as part of the Teatroterapia Lubelska project, alongside the most talented secondary school students from Małopolska. At that time, she painted a mural on the premises of the Teatr Ludzi Niepełnosprawnych, which remains intact to this day. This early artistic debut was her most dramatic attempt to tell the story of what happened in the life of a small, vulnerable girl. The mural is under special protection by all residents of Bronowice, who remain silent in the face of the artist’s talent… and no one has painted over it to this day.
